Approach
Hampton Boys School is ranked 4th in the UK’s top 50 Independent Schools*. Like many schools, Hampton School was looking to upgrade their internal network to a system which is a) secure and works and b) is actually used by the students. Hampton School required a platform which will deliver the core requirements for learning, an engaging social element and a user friendly interface providing ease of use and saving time for students and teachers.
Working closely with the school and pupils, Martech have created a socially enabled platform using the existing social functionality of the M.Social platform and adding a variety of new plugins to create a dynamic, engaging learning platform.
The M.Social education platform has been designed to a “Facebook” style allowing familiarity and ease of use for both student and teachers. Students automatically follow the classes they are attending and can contribute and share content with class mates and teachers.
Teachers are privy to a higher level of administration with the ability to schedule work, update class resources, broadcast to students and act as experts in their given field.
Alongside the vast array of educational functionality the platform also offers high levels of social engagement, from commenting, messaging, uploading of content and the ability for students to have their own personal spaces with a content repository and privacy settings.
The platform also includes a robust Q&A section and something which has never been done before, an opt in plugin allowing pupils to connect directly with their school network through Facebook, delivering school, class and friend updates.
Further additions have been made to the back end Administration area of the platform including advanced moderation tools and highly secure permission levels and access.
...this platform may have been built by us, but the requirement direction has been driven by a school, the teachers and the pupils – the people who use it.
Outcome
- An interactive and social environment encouraging collaboration and contribution
- Safe and secure closed network
- A content rich solution engaging pupils
- A highly user friendly interface encouraging interactivity
- Connecting students with the school within Facebook
- Provide students and teachers with an effective content repository
