
Martech Social is proud to announce that one of the biggest car manufacturers in the world, Mercedes Benz has chosen Martech to launch a new site for its city car brand Smart.
Mercedes Benz has always been a leader in innovation. The concept of a city car dates back to 1972 when Johann Tomforde introduced the idea. Following on from his idea came research related to urban mobility that found 80% of the time people drive solo, cars are stationary 90% of their life, cars are driven less than 50Km per day and most people live less than 15km away from their work place.
In 1994 Mercedes Benz formed a partnership with Swiss watch maker Swatch. Mercedes Benz bought safety, comfort, build quality and technological innovation to the partnership. Swatch bought design quality, value for money, concept innovation and a "young at heart" spirit. The first Smart car was launched in 1998 and in the UK in 2000.
Since its launch Smart has extended its range and has been a leader in innovative development and design. Over the past 10 years Smart has built up a loyal and dedicated customer base. Through the support of its customer base and fan base it was decided to give something back to the community. Smart launches its official community website in Q2 2009.
